Alright, just to give a bit of an OOC background, I had always wanted to RPly create a story arc for my characters to explain how they join/are related to Dark Watch, Crimson Corsairs, etc, etc, going so far as to revamp my characters’ appearances to make it easier for me. Unfortunately, this was literally when I was hit by a truck and put into a coma for a few days, so it had to be put off…until now…
So, the way it works, is that anyone can be a part of the story arc. Totally encouraged, totally welcome. There are a few things to take note though. While I encourage diversity and side-arcs, conversations, events, it should be noted that this arc and what I type/emote is directing the story down a certain road and is the main plot. That being said, all are welcome to have their own little sub-stories, plots, while this arc is going on.
With that said, below is just my characters’ backgrounds (Those that people already know, and those that will be revealed as the story progresses). It’s pretty long, so only read it if you’re bored or are just THAT interested in peoples’ characters. It’ll probably help if you have a snack or popcorn, since it’s pretty long.
Also note that the story and the backgrounds are both in the same threads. I’ve typed in the headlines which is which, so hopefully it’s not too confusing to navigate. Enjoy! (Hopefully…)
UPDATE (9/13/14): The background of the Independent is underway, another part of the story is complete, as well as finishing up the story of the Perfectionist!
The Chauvinist (Character)
Meet Sergeant Lee Yun, one of the Republic’s most decorated and greatest troopers. Handsome, strong, tactful, the man is essentially the “poster-boy” of the Republic Army, the one that many would find to be on the Republic’s many propaganda posters. He brings with him an air of undying loyalty to the Republic, a trait that could arguably greater than his own friends and family.
And why shouldn’t he? His father was a Republic ace fighter pilot while his mother was a corporal in a unit stationed on Coruscant. His childhood was rather strained at a young age, what with his parents focusing on their respective duties and thus Lee living up in a military environment. This did not mean that they didn’t love his son. His mother would always come home to find Lee ready to jump into her arms, a trait that she would later recall as one of the highlights of her day. Lee’s father on the other hand had barely any physical interaction with his son, only able to visit him for roughly a week every cycle. His father, however, would always make it a duty to create a Holocall with Lee every night, talking about the everyday sort of things that a father should talk about.
It was through all of these interactions that Lee immediately realized from a little kid that he wanted to follow his parents footsteps and join the Republic Army, which made his parents proud. Yet, it was during this time that Lee started to notice a few subtle quirks in his home. He was never allowed to read the family mail, which he never really bothered to check to begin with. He was never allowed to enter his father’s room, even though for the most part, it was abandoned. And above all else, he was never allowed to go to a public school, being homeschooled instead. Yet he never complained, never argued. To him, betraying his family was worse than death.
Joining the Academy was arguably Lee’s happiest moment in his life, eager to finally make new friends, only to realize that he was an outsider to the world. He didn’t understand the concept of “showing off”, finishing every year at the top of his class. And thus, life in the Academy was harsh for him, being bullied from those who were jealous of his renown and the praise he received from his teachers. A day didn’t go by that Lee would wake up at night to find himself being beaten repeatedly from his fellow peers with socks filled with bars of soap. Yet he didn’t complain, didn’t rat out his classmates, didn’t show any sort of distress. To him, it was just another obstacle to overcome. What he failed to realize, however, was that the real obstacle lay in front of him, only a year away.
The Sacking of Coruscant was a day that would live on in infamy. Lee watched from a Holonews network station the ongoing onslaught in the Academy, seeing countless of Republic troops and Jedi that he saw as heroes fall before the onslaught of the Empire and the Sith. It was at this time that he heard word that his father was K.I.A after he was part of the Republic Fleet that engaged the Imperial Fleet over Coruscant. Realizing the danger and the severity of the situation, Lee rushed to find his mother, whose last known location was part of a Republic unit assigned to protect the civilians in a highly populated sector. Going through the dozens of bodies that littered the streets, Lee began to search among the dead and the wounded, asking a shell-shocked trooper here and there if they had seen his mother, only to receive silence or useless information.
And that’s when he found her, her body crushed by a fallen support beam, part of her face burnt away from a blaster bolt. Clutching her dying body, he begged, just like any other child, for her not to leave her. This would not be his saddest moment however, that would come with his mother’s dying last words:
“You were no son of mine…”
From then on, Lee had changed. His outward appearance remained the same, a kind and dutiful man who was always happy to lend a hand, always getting the job done. Inside however, he was a dead, emotionless man, wracked by guilt and misery. He put his feelings aside however when it came to his assignments.
And it showed, his mission success rate was off the charts, but a common theme had followed. He was always transferred from one desolate planet to another, always sent on suicide missions, always worked under a corrupt officer. His military service, which arguably could have easily made him a Major or even a Colonel, kept Lee at a mere Sergeant.
His life would soon change however when he would meet a smuggler by the name of Resin as he worked a part-time shift off-duty as a bartender. He would consider her a close friend, the first that he could genuinely trust. It would be no surprise later that they would become lovers, even having a child. Life was good for him.
Yet it was short-lived for him after Resin disappeared with their child. He was alone once more. Doing what he did best, he put his feelings aside for the Republic. This would all change on one fateful day…
The Perfectionist (Character)
Enter Jai, a man who came into the company of Dark Watch out of, literally, nowhere. Indeed, no one knew where he came from, who he was, why he’s in the organization. Yet, they can all agree on one thing.
The man is insane.
A narcissistic man, Jai strives to make himself “perfect”, going so far as to apply generous amounts of make-up and eyeliner, even applying lipstick to match the color of his tattoos. He brings with him an air of uneasiness to all who meet him, save for the most powerful of Sith.
His personality erratic, he finds it unacceptable if he spots anyone looking more “perfect” than him. And what better way to solve that impossible problem? Through violence. In one such incident, he made a man watch as he forced his wife to kill the family’s children, then began to crush the man’s skull with his trusty baton, dubbed “Mr. Hammer.” All for the reason that the man had the most “perfect eyes” that Jai had ever laid eyes on.
Yet, even though his personality and his actions can be read like an open picture book, many still wonder. What is his goal, if any? And where does his obsession of perfection stem from? This was a question that would remain unanswered…until now…
The Story So Far… (Story)
In a galaxy far, far away, Lee had returned for a month on the Republic Fleet, regaling his guilty pleasure of bartending. Life was usual for him, bartending the various patrons of the Fleet. Yet this meeting would be different.
Lee had received a mysterious message, one that was sent by an anonymous person who wanted to meet Lee on Hutta, stating that he knew Lee’s parents quite well and he wanted to tell Lee the truth of them. Lee, unnerved by this sudden event, couldn’t think straight for once in his life.
It also didn’t really help that his next customer would be the love of his life, thought long gone, Resin. It seemed that life had given him a second chance in that fleeting moment. Sadly, like always, life was once again cruel. His speech and thoughts erratic, his personality seemed oddly, resoundingly oddly, different. Stammering and stuttering, sweating.
Following these events, a dark mysterious figure had just entered the cantina, watching the couple converse “happily” from afar. Taking out a device that looked like a remote, he aimed it at Lee and pressed a button before vanishing back into the Fleet.
Lee began to change, his feelings of happiness (regardless of his behavior) washed away as a sense of betrayal came from inside of him. His lover had “betrayed” him, and effectively “betrayed” the Republic, which was the greatest offense in Lee’s ruined mind.
Reminding of himself of his undying loyalty and devotion to the Republic, Lee took matters into his own hands as he drew his rifle upon Resin, only to feel his mind become assaulted with wave after wave of pain. After a few minutes of this psychological torture, he had looked Resin in the eye with weak eyes, muttering his lover’s name before falling into a coma, treated aboard Resin’s ship. Repeating “Hutta” aloud, it seemed that the answers for Lee’s strange behavior would be answered by the anonymous sender on Hutta.
Meanwhile… (Story)
Aboard the Imperial Fleet, Jai had become more erratic than usual, his behavior matching near perfectly with Lee, ranting about “the nightmares” and “They” and “Them.” After taking his weapon out among his fellow Dark Watch members, Jai was soon rendered unconscious after being knocked clean off his feet by a 7 ft. behemoth of a Cathar known as Claudis. Treated aboard the Ziost Shadow’s medbay, the group of Dark Watch members that witnessed this ordeal watched on as the medical units began to delve into Jai’s mind, finding two noticeable things. His brain was a mess, parts of it showing clear signs of inflammation, which would answer the reason for his behavior. The other was a small microchip of unknown origin. Upon closer inspection, the group realized that the chip was a storage device, logging the various places that Jai had been, and when he had been at said destinations, with the last known location being Hutta…
The Independent (Intro to Character; Story)
In the swampy lands of Hutta, there lied a man. A hunter. Covered in combat fatigues, he trekked across the swampy waters to find his target. Smiling behind his ventilated helmet, he watched on as a chemilizard had emerged from the depths, knowing that the hide of the creature would go for a decent amount of credits to the Hutts that inhabited the planet. As he hid under the mud, he brought up his trusty bowcaster, lining the perfect shot. Just as he was about to fire however, the chemilizard had detected something nearby, scurrying away to investigate. Frowning at the creature’s sudden behavior, the hunter decided to follow the creature and discover what exactly had bothered it to scurry away from its dwelling…
