Kagrido flew his ship to the coordinates that led to the outer edge of the Kathol Rift. If Kelshan hadn’t shared the map he found with him, Kagrido would have been left wandering the galaxy for the rest of his life and possibly would never have found the rift. Once he got to the rift, he would set the ship on autopilot and leave to a different room. Usually Kagrido brought his usual crew to help fly the ship, but he wished to be alone. K1, Zarron, and Xindreles were left with their own agendas.
Before he set out for the journey, Kagrido was warned about the reported hallucinations that had been experienced by those who had actually entered the rift. Seeing these hallucinations, they had turned around and left the rift. These travelers were deemed crazy, although there had been very few reports of those who had successfully traversed the rift.
It wasn’t long before Kagrido arrived at the coordinates listed and he was at the edge of the Kathol Rift. He set the ship to autopilot according to the map Kelshan gave him and retired to the main room of the Fury class interceptor. He stood in the middle of the room with his arms crossed and channeling his dark side energy, preparing himself for the hallucinations.
Within moments, small shadowy insects began to appear in the room, crawling along the floor, walls, and ceiling. Soon they found their wait to Kagrido and began to crawl on him. Ignoring the bugs, Kagrido kept his gaze forward and remained calm. The insects made their way to his neck and head, the hallucinations trying to scare him away.
These insects are nothing compared to the Killiks of Alderaan or the Collicoids of Balmorra. Neither of which had posed any real threat to me. Kagrido thought to himself.
The instant he had finished his line of thought, the insects began to fade away. When they did, the room was surrounded by a shadowy mist. Within the dark mist, three figures began to manifest themselves around Kagrido. Inig, Kelshan, Tendalia, and Nomi’jin stood in front of him. Each of them drew their weapons and glared at Kagrido.
Trying to get personal, huh? Figured that would happen.
The four of them charged at him, readying their blades to attack. But when each of the blades reached their target, they phased right through him. The four of them were surrounding Kagrido, continuing their assault but with no progress. Kagrido stood there as the hallucinations continued to attack him.
Hallucinations can’t hurt me. They aren’t real.
When the realization became known, the hallucinations of the three councilors began to fade away. The shadows in the room began to recede. Perhaps the worst was over. As Kagrido stood and watched the shadows dissipate further, a voice was heard behind him.
“Glad to see you’ve found your way to the rift, Kagrido.”
Kagrido turned to the direction of the voice and saw the ghostly appearance of his former master, Kiien Xen’shal. He hasn’t received a visit of his dead mentor in a while.
“I figured mastering Fold Space could be useful. Perhaps I can also spend some time working on my lightsaber forms.” Kagrido responded.
“Don’t tell me you’ve gotten lazy now. Would be embarrassing if you killed me with poor lightsaber skills.” A female voice spoke.
Kagrido turned to the other side of the room and saw the apparition of Svia Xen’shal. He was happy to see the two of them had decided to visit him on his journey. Though he was sad the moment she brought up him killing her.
“I haven’t grown any weaker since that day. And had there been any way to bring you to your senses, I would have taken it.” Kagrido told Svia.
“And yet you killed me anyway. Thought you were some kind of genius.” Svia responded with venom in her words. “But don’t worry, you won’t have to worry about that for long.”
As Kagrido tried to understand her meaning, a bolt of lightning shot past his head and saw that Kiien had attacked him. Svia then raised her hands and conjured her own lightning to attack Kagrido, who raises his hands to use the Force to shield himself. Kiien followed with his daughter and Kagrido used his left hand to protect himself from the other side.
As he looked between the two of them while shielding himself from the lightning, Kagrido tried to make sense of the situation. Why would Kiien and Svia appear to him and attack him. After a moment, he noticed the spirits were surrounded by the same shadowy aura as the other hallucinations. He lowered his barriers and found that the lightning didn’t reach him.
Relieved that they weren’t who they appeared to be, he watched the two hallucinations fade away as the room was surrounded by the mist again. Soon, the shadows began to form two individuals standing in front of him, slowly taking the shape of two humans in Sith attire. Both of them with white eyes like Kagrido’s.
“Using my father who I hardly remember and uncle I’ve only met once to drive me away? The last two were more convincing.” Kagrido spoke to the shadows.
Arekis and Ivernik drew their lightsabers and rushed toward him. Without thinking, Kagrido drew his own weapon and struck the two of them. One strike was enough to defeat the hallucinations and the shadows began to fade. Kagrido looked down at his saber.
Why did I attack them? It’s all nothing but a mirage, so why did I react?
The shadows that formed the two Sith slowly began to merge together, forming one, unidentifiable person. Fearing what the figure might turn into, Kagrido quickly dispatched the shadow with a diagonal slash. Soon the shadow found its way to the rest of the mist in the room, which began to recede entirely.
Kagrido found himself breathing heavily, but not out of exhaustion, out of fear. He stood in the same spot for a while thinking on what had just happened. Suddenly an alarm sounded throughout the ship and red lights flashed in the room. Kagrido regained his composure, hooked his lightsaber to his belt, and ran toward the pilot cabin.
As he sat himself in the pilot’s chair, Kagrido saw the ship’s systems had gone haywire and the ship was flying out of control. The ship seems like it was hit by an electrical storm, but there was none visible outside the main viewport. He switched the controls from autopilot to manual and tried to steer through open space, but it didn’t help any. Though as he tried to regain control, Kagrido noticed the ship seemed to be slowly setting itself on a fixed course.
He released the controls and looked outside the viewport. His hunch was correct. In moments, the ship finally settled on moving in one direction. Kagrido then noticed a planet and knew the ship was heading right toward it. The speed the ship was moving at was increasing by the second. With no way to control it and no way to slow it down, the ship will crash right into the planet’s surface. Kagrido prepared for the worse.
In minutes, the planet filled the viewport. As the ship entered the planet’s atmosphere, the ship’s surface caught on fire as it plummeted to the surface below. Before he could make out the details on the ground, Kagrido raised his hands to create a barrier around him in an attempt to protect himself from the crash.
